Nangarhar University Establishment date (1962)
Nangarhar University, which is the second largest university of Afghanistan, was established in 1963 based completely on the national and international rules and regulations. It owns eleven faculties, ‘Medical, engineering, law and political science, Islamic sharia, agriculture, economics, veterinary, science, computer science, literature and education. Additionally, it has approximately sixty 60% students from other provinces.
The medical, computer science and education faculties are located in Jalalabad city and the rest of eight faculties are located in doranta eleven kilometers away from Jalalabad city. The “Medical” was the first faculty of the university, and then later on the “Engineering, Education and Agriculture faculties” were established in 1979. Afterwards, in 1985 the “Literature” and in 1993 the “Economics, Law and Political Science, Islamic Sharia and Veterinary” faculties were established. The “Science and Computer Science” faculties were established in 2011. Now, this university has eleven faculties in all.
